Volunteering

Volunteering in our Parish

What volunteering jobs are done in our Parish?

We are always very grateful for the time and effort which our selfless volunteers put in to keep our parish running.  They know that it would not function without them.  They fill many various roles and they enjoy contributing and being part of the community, getting to know others and broadening their skillset.

The obvious roles, which are needed during Mass, are: Altar Servers, Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Money Collectors, Offertory Processors, Musicians, Singers and Data Projector Operators.  There are those who work in the background to keep the church and surrounds clean, arrange flowers, wash linen and fill out the Book of Remembrance. We have Safeguarding Volunteers, those who assist with Faith Formation such as Children’s Liturgy, Baptism Preparation, RCIA and Prayer Groups.  Still others assist with Pastoral Care, Hospitality, Social Justice & Advocacy, Support and Friendship Groups and Youth Groups.  You will find a full list on the attached Sharing Our Gifts Volunteer Form.

What if I am not sure whether I would know what to do?

No-one is expected to know what to do before they start. We always train Readers, Eucharistic Ministers and Altar Servers before allowing them to serve.

If you would like to join the musicians, it is best to approach them after Mass.

Other volunteer roles are learnt by joining the team, where the team leaders and others are always happy to welcome newcomers and will show you what to do!

What do I need to do to volunteer?

Print and fill out the Sharing Our Gifts Volunteer Form, then give it to us by handing it to a priest or the Parish Office; dropping it into our letterbox (which is on the doorstep of the Parish Office) or posting it to us.  If you have a scanner, you could also scan and email it to us.

All Volunteers (regardless of ministry) are required to read the Archdiocesan Child Protection Code of Conduct and sign the Acknowledgement Form, which is valid for 3 years from the signing date.

If your ministry requires engaging in a regulated activity – such as with children or vulnerable people (they are marked with a # on the Sharing Our Gifts Volunteer Form and a general instruction is here) you will be required to obtain a Working With Vulnerable People‘s Card from the ACT Government.  When you apply, please email us your application number.

Please contact parish office if you have any questions:
