Worship

“For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.”

—CCC, no. 2558, citing St. Therese of Lisieux,
Manuscrits Autobiographiques, C 25rr

At the Last Supper Jesus very plainly explained to the apostles how he wanted them to worship. During the Passover meal, Jesus breaks bread and gives it to his Disciples, uttering the words, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after supper, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” (Lk 22:19-20). The apostles also understood in Jesus’ words both the authority and the commandment to “do” perpetually in worship what Jesus had just instituted: The Eucharist.
