What is RCIA?
RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is the Catholic Church’s usual process for adults who are considering becoming Catholic, but you do not need to have decided that you want to become Catholic in order to take part.
RCIA is also an opportunity simply to explore Christianity and the Catholic faith, ask questions, and understand what Catholics believe and why. This can be particularly helpful if your spouse, children or other close family members are Catholic and you would like to understand their faith better.
People of all religious backgrounds, or none at all, are welcome. There is no expectation that participating in RCIA means that you will eventually be baptised, received into the Catholic Church, or begin attending Mass regularly. Those are decisions that, if relevant, come much later and are yours to make freely.
What does the program involve?
The sessions explore a wide range of topics about the Christian and Catholic faith and are intended to give participants the opportunity to learn, discuss, ask questions and, for those considering becoming Catholic, make an informed decision about whether they wish to continue that journey.
There is no cost to participate.
Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, during the following periods:
- 2 September – 2 December 2026
- 3 February – 21 April 2027
While there is no commitment to becoming Catholic, if you decide after the introductory session that you would like to participate in the RCIA program, we do ask you to make a commitment to attending the weekly sessions as consistently as possible.
The sessions are specifically designed for adults and are unfortunately not suitable for children to attend. We therefore ask participants with children to make alternative childcare arrangements for the sessions.
